S.M. Fazlul Hoque, Ex-President, BGMEA & Chairman, Choice Group

S.M. Fazlul Hoque is one of the renowned industrialists of the country who has been contributing to a great extend to the growth of our national economy since a long time by exporting readymade garments 31(RMG) abroad. The formerly Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, BGMEA President Mr. Fazlul Hoque was born on December 1, 1949 at Hathazari, Chittagong. His father’s name is Late Al-haj S.M. Asarul Hoque (Former President, Quaish Burishchar Union Parishad). A permanent resident of K.B Abdus Sattar Road, Rahmatgonj, Chittagong Mr. S.M Fazlul Hoque was a valiant Freedom Fighter and fought against the occupation forces of Pakistan as a member of BLF (Bangladesh Liberation Force) in 1971. He took training as a member of BLF 7th course, Tandua, Deradun in India, 1971 and was a Chittagong district leader during the War of Liberation. He was the Commander, Hathazari Thana, BLF Chittagong, 1971 and Member, Command Council, Operation Eagle, Chittagong District (1971). An M.A in History of Chittagong University Mr. SM Fazlul Hoque took business as his career. He is currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Choice Group which consists of Choice Garments Ltd., Mission Apparel Industries Ltd., Fashion Apparel Industries, Integral Apparels Ltd. (Unit 1 & 2), New Morning Apparels Ltd., combined Tex-wear Ltd. (Unit 1 & 2) Epshita Garments Ltd., Apparels Manufacturer (BD) Ltd., Lushai Apparels, Winwear Limited, Nandan Apparels, Choice Washing Ltd., M.S Trading Corporation and Firstway Embroidery.

Alongside business activities Mr. S.M Fazlul Hoque is also involved in various socio-cultural organizations. He was the president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA, 2006-2007), Member, Syndicate, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh (1984-85, 1986-89, 1994 to date), Member, Senate, University of Chittagong (1982 to date), First Vice-President, BGMEA (1993-1996), Chairman, Governing body, Quaish, Burishchar High School, Chittagong (2000-03, 2003-06), Chairman, Standing Committee on Law and Order, BGMEA-Chittagong (1998-2005), Treasurer, Chittagong Sub-centre & Integrated preschool for hearing impaired Children of SAHIC (2000-03, 2003-06), Member, Governing body, BGC TRUST, Medical College, Chittagong (2003-06), Member, Governing body, Mahila College, Enayet Bazar, Chittagong (1989-1992), vice-president, Governing body Quaish Burishchar College, Hathazari, Chittagong (1985 to date), Life Member, Red crescent Society, Bangladesh (Chittagong), Shishu Hospital (Chittagong), Bhatiary Golf & Country Club. Mr. S.M Fazlul Hoque had involvement in politics since student life. He was The President, Student League of Jatiaya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) in 1972-74, Member Central Committee, JSD, 1976-82. He is vice-president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Chittagong North and Deputy Treasurer of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Central committee.

A widely traveled person Mr. S.M. Fazlul Hoque visited many countries across the globe including USA, UK, Germany, Belgium, France, UAE, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and India. He also traveled India, Thailand and Hong Kong as a leader of the delegation sponsored by UNDP on Institutional Education of Fashion in January 1995. As deputy leader he lead BGMEA delegation for Market Development, USA in the year 1994 and also visited EEC countries in 1993 as Member of the BGMEA delegation Mr. S.M Fazlul Hoque was honored by many socio-cultural organizations for his outstanding contributions to the overall economy as well as the welfare of the society.
