Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Nur Ashikin Mohd Taib paid a courtesy call on Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Kazi M Aminul Islam at his office today.
In the meeting, the emphasis was given to increase the inter-relations and inter-contact between the two friendly countries by increasing the sectors of trade and investment.
In response to Malaysian High Commissioner’s eagerness to know about the reform programs aimed at improving business and investment climate led by the present government, BIDA Executive Chairman said, various reform activities including Ease of Doing Business, introduction of one stop service act are ongoing in order to expand investment and trade in Bangladesh. He said that the current GDP growth rate of Bangladesh is pacing at an average rate of 7 percent. He hoped that if the ongoing reform programs are fully implemented, the GDP growth rate will be elevated to two digits.
Malaysian High Commissioner informed that investors from her country are interested to invest in manufacturing, agro and food processing, machineries and other potential sectors.
BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam said a Bangladeshi delegation has recently visited Malaysia in order to gain experience from the country regarding the implementation of economic corridor. Moreover, a high level business delegation from Malaysia also visited Bangladesh a few days ago to verify the feasibility of investment here. He expects assistance from High Commissioner regarding the investment of Malaysian businessmen in Bangladesh at a higher rate.
