The buying and selling of sacrificial animals began at city’s cattle markets from today ahead of the forthcoming Eid-ul Azha by maintaining proper health rules and social distancing.
The buying and selling of sacrificial animals will continue till the day of Eid on July 21.
This year, there are 8 temporary cattle markets including Gabtali permanent cattle market in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has temporary 10 cattle markets including Sarulia Permanent cattle market.
Meanwhile, through the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the government has launched an online platform for buying and selling of sacrificial animals across the country to prevent corona infection.
Farmers and buyers have been requested to buy and sell sacrificial animals through online system.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam told BSS that the lease holders have been asked to operate the cattle markets in compliance with the hygiene rules.
To monitor the animal haats, A 14-member monitoring committee has been formed making councilor of ward 19 Mofizur Rahman convener, he added.
The committee also has two veterinary officers from the DNCC including 12 councilors, he said.
South City Chief Property Officer Russell Sabrin told BSS that all sorts of preparations have been made to ensure hygiene at the cattle markets.
Due to the Corona pandemic, the lessees of the temporary cattle markets have been given strict conditions to ensure hygiene rules.
If they violate any conditions, their lease will be cancelled, Chief Property Officer said.
The makeshift haats in the south city are : the open area adjacent to the Institute of Leather Technology in the Hazaribagh area, the vacant space area of Postagola crematorium, the open space in the surrounding area of Meradia Bazar, the open space adjacent to Dholaikhal Truck Terminal, open places in Aftabnagar (Eastern Housing) Block -E, F, G, H, open place of sections 1 and 2, the free spaces behind South City Corporation Market at Golapbagh, open places adjacent to Maitri Sangha Club at North Shahjahanpur Khilgaon Railgate Bazar, places adjacent to Dania College, free places adjacent to Dhupkhola East and club and empty places adjacent to Rahmatganj Club in Lalbagh area.
On the other hand, the 9 makeshift haats areas of North City Corporation are: Badda Eastern Housing (Aftabnagar) Block-E, vacant land in Section-3, vacant land adjacent to Kawla Shiyaldanga, places in Section 6 (Eastern Housing) of Mirpur Ward-6, free places of Uttarkhan Mainartech Shaheed Nagar Housing (Residential) Project, open space from Brindaban to BGMEA (north side), Bhatara (Saidnagar) temporary cattle market and open spaces of Rajdhani Housing, Swapnadhara Housing and Basila Garden City adjacent to Basila 40-feet road, open spaces of Salam Steel Limited and Jamuna Housing Company and privately owned open spaces adjacent to the north side of 300-feet road under the Ward no 43 in in Mohammadpur .bss
