Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given directives to authorities concerned to reduce tariff on four essential items- rice, edible oil, sugar and date.
She gave the directive in a cabinet meeting today at her office in the capital’s Tejgaon.
Later, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain in a press conference disclosed the decisions taken in the meeting.
Ahead of the Holy month of Ramadan, the premier gave directives to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to reduce tariff on the four essentials commodities, he said adding now the NBR will decide how much tariff will be reduced.
The Cabinet approved the draft of the Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) (amendment) Act-2024.
Mahbub Hossain said the act was framed first in 2002 for two years. Later the tenure of the law was extended for several times and the current tenure will expire on April 9 next.
The Cabinet has taken decision in principle to give the act a permanent shape, he said.
Draft of the National Primary Education Academy Act-2024 also got cabinet’s nod.
