5 killed, 4 injured in Faridpur road crash

Five people were killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a three-wheeler ‘Mahindra’ in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur this morning (4 June).

Among the deceased, four have been identified — Ibrahim Sardar and his son Monir Sardar, Mizanur Matbor and Tara Mia.

Confirming the incident, Bhanga Highway Police Sub-Inspector Md Mamun said a Dhaka-bound Mizan Paribahan bus sideswiped a Mahindra vehicle heading toward Tekerhat, causing it to crash.

Four passengers of the Mahindra died on the spot. Five others were injured and taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, where one more person succumbed to their injuries.

Upon receiving the news, the fire service and Bhanga Highway Police arrived at the scene around 7am.

Talha Bin Zashim, station officer (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters, said the collision occurred around 6:00am in Chumurdi Bablatala Bus Stand area of the upazila.

On information, two firefighting units from Bhanga fire station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured with the help of locals and sent to Upazila Health Complex, he said.

Meanwhile, due to the critical condition of the four injured individuals, they have been referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, according to Dr Tanzib Zubair, health officer at the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
