Abu Sayed murder: Tribunal orders completion of probe within a month

Online Report

The International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday ordered investigators to complete the probe into the murder of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed—killed during the July Uprising in Rangpur—within one month.

The investigation report must be submitted by July 14.

The order came on Sunday from a tribunal bench headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumder.

Prosecutor SM Moinul Karim informed the court that the investigation is nearing completion and is expected to conclude within two weeks.

Four accused—former Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain, Constable Sujon Chandra Roy, university proctor Shariful Islam, and Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury Akash—were produced before the tribunal earlier in the day.

The tribunal had earlier instructed that these suspects be shown arrested in the case. All four are currently in custody in connection with other cases.

Abu Sayed was shot dead during a student-led anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur. According to prosecutors, the police officials were directly involved in the killing, while the others allegedly played inciting roles.
