One dengue patient died and 249 patients have been hospitalised in the country during the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.
According to a press release issued on Sunday by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the data covers the period from 8:00 am Saturday to 8:00 am Sunday.
The highest number of new hospitalizations was reported in Barishal Division with 134 cases, followed by Chattogram with 39, Dhaka South City Corporation with 35, Greater Dhaka (outside city corporations) with 9, Dhaka North City with 8, Khulna with 8, Mymensingh with 7, Rajshahi with 5, Rangpur with 3, and Sylhet with 1.
In the same 24-hour period, 222 dengue patients were released from hospitals after treatment.
With these latest figures, the total number of dengue cases this year has risen to 5,988, while the death toll has reached 30.
In comparison, 575 people died from dengue in 2024, and 1,705 died in 2023, which remains the deadliest year on record for dengue in Bangladesh. That year, over 321,000 people were hospitalized with the mosquito-borne disease.
Health authorities have reiterated their call for increased awareness and preventive measures, warning that with the monsoon season intensifying, the risk of dengue outbreaks remains high across the country.
