Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused Mujibist forces of orchestrating a violent, targeted attack on NCP leaders and activists in Gopalganj, alleging the assault was intended not merely to intimidate but to kill.
Speaking at a press conference at the Khulna Press Club on Wednesday night, Nahid said that the attackers—whom he identified as members of the Chhatra League, Awami League, and allied “Mujibist terrorist groups”—executed the operation in a “militant and premeditated” manner.
“This was not random political violence,” Nahid stated. “It was a Mujibist-backed assassination attempt against the leadership of the NCP and the broader mass uprising movement.”
Earlier that evening, following clashes surrounding an NCP rally in Gopalganj, senior party leaders were escorted to Khulna under military and law enforcement protection. They are currently residing at the Khulna Circuit House.
Different NCP leaders including Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (North), Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer (South), Samanta Sharmin, Senior Joint Convener, Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary, Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Member Secretary and Sarwar Tushar, and among others were present on the occasion.
Nahid Islam further accused the ruling establishment of providing tacit support to the Mujibist elements responsible for the attack.
“When the ideology of Mujibism becomes a license for terror, no citizen is safe. Gopalganj is just the beginning,” he warned.
In response, the NCP announced a series of nationwide protest rallies scheduled for Thursday, demanding justice and the immediate arrest of the attackers.
