Four people, including a couple and their 12-year-old son, were killed in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Gazipur’s Kaliakair on Friday.
The accident occurred around midday in Borochala area on the Maona–Kaliakair regional highway.
The victims were identified as Zahidul Islam, 35, his wife Nasrin Nahar, 30, and their son Mohammad Huraira, 12, all residents of Ishwarghat village in Dhunat upazila of Bogura district. The another victim was Shafiqul Islam, 55, from Kewra area in , Gazipur’s Maona union.
All four victims belonged to the same family, confirmed Kaliakair Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Mannan.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a CNG-run autorickshaw carrying five passengers was heading toward Kaliakair from Maona when it collided head-on with a speeding covered van coming from the opposite direction.
The autorickshaw was severely crushed in the impact, killing two people on the spot. Two others, including a woman, were critically injured and rushed to a hospital near Maona Chourasta, where attending doctors declared them dead.
Police stated that legal steps are underway regarding the incident.
