A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police detained former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque from his Dhanmondi residence in the capital on Thursday morning.
Confirming the development, DB police Joint Commissioner (North) Rabiul Islam Bhuiyan said that the former chief justice was picked up earlier today. He was brought to the DB office.
At least two cases have been filed against the chief justice. It was not immediately clear which case Khairul was arrested over.
”We will share more information once the details are available,” the DB added.
On August 27, Supreme Court lawyer Mujahidul Islam Shaheen filed a case against the former chief justice and former Law Commission chairman Khairul with Shahbagh Police Station over allegations of corruption and forgery of verdicts.
Justice Khairul Haque, the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh, is known for his controversial verdicts on constitutional matters.
