A BRTC double-decker has rammed into a pillar of the Elevated Expressway at Farmgate in Dhaka, leaving one person injured and causing a brief traffic disruption on the busy road.
The high-speed crash occurred around 11:30am on Tuesday as two BRTC double-deckers raced side by side to pick up passengers, according to bystander Sujan Bonik.
The bus on the right struck a pillar, smashing the roof on the upper deck, which partially collapsed.
With only a few passengers on the top deck, no one was seriously hurt, said Sujan, adding that some passengers jumped out through the windows to escape. The collision briefly disrupted traffic on the crucial thoroughfare, but the damaged bus was quickly moved from the road.
Tejgaon police chief Mobarak Hossain confirmed that one person was injured in the incident and later reached a settlement with BRTC officials. No formal complaint was filed with police.
