A Dhaka court on Monday once again deferred the submission of the investigation report in the 2012 double murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, marking the 120th extension.

Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman set September 14 as the new deadline after the case’s investigation officer, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Azizul Haque of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), failed to submit the report.

Eight people, including Runi’s friend Tanvir Rahman and the couple’s apartment security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, have been accused in the case. All have been remanded multiple times but none have given confessional statements.

Sagar, news editor at Maasranga Television, and Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were brutally killed in their rented West Rajabazar apartment in Dhaka on the night of February 11, 2012. The following morning, their bodies were recovered with multiple stab wounds.

The case has passed through several investigating agencies, from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police to the Detective Branch (DB), then the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), without resolution. In September last year, the High Court ordered the formation of a high-powered four-member task force, led by the PBI chief, to complete the investigation within six months and removed RAB from the probe
