President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Monday appointed 25 additional judges to the High Court (HC) Division of the Supreme Court in consultation with Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a gazette notification confirming the appointments, stating that the judges will serve for a term of up to two years from the date of their swearing-in.

The names had earlier been recommended by the Supreme Court.

The newly appointed Additional Judges of the High Court Division are: Md Anwarul Islam (Shahin), Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Md Saiful Islam, Additional Secretary (Senior District Judge), Law and Justice Division, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhaka; Md Nurul Islam, District and Sessions Judge, Chattogram; Sheikh Abu Taher, Secretary (Senior District and Sessions Judge), Law and Justice Division, Dhaka; Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, Registrar General (Senior District Judge), Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Rajiuddin Ahmed, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Dhaka; Faisal Hasan Arif, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; SM Saiful Islam, Joint Secretary (Senior District Judge), Law and Justice Division, Dhaka; Md Asif Hasan, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Md Ziaul Haque, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Dihidar Masum Kabir, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh; Jasmine Ara Begum, District and Sessions Judge, Habiganj; Murad-e-Mawla Sohel, Secretary (Senior District Judge), Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission; Md Zakir Hossain, Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Dhaka; Md Rafizul Islam, Solicitor (Senior District Judge), Law and Justice Division, Dhaka; Md Manjur Alam, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh; Md Lutfar Rahman, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh; Rezaul Karim, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh; Fatema Anwar, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Mahmud Hasan, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh; Abdur Rahman, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Syed Hasan Zubair, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; AFM Saiful Karim, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh; Urmi Rahman, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; and SM Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud, Deputy Attorney General, Bangladesh.

Chief Justice Ahmed is scheduled to administer the oath of office to the new judges on Tuesday.
