No individual is allowed to hold more than 10 mobile SIM cards under their name. Subscribers must cancel any extra SIMs by October 30, 2025, or the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will automatically deactivate the excess SIMs.
The commission issued the directive through a verified Facebook post on Monday. Subscribers are advised to either de-register extra SIMs or transfer ownership via the respective mobile operator’s customer care. Those who fail to comply will have their excess SIMs deactivated at the commission’s discretion.
Subscribers can check the number of SIMs registered under their National ID by dialing 16001# and entering the last four digits of their NID.
According to BTRC, the move aims to strengthen crime prevention and cyber security, curb the use of fake or unregistered SIMs, and ensure transparency in digital identity.
Currently, over 188.6 million SIMs are registered in the country.
