After nearly 28 hours of relentless efforts, firefighters have successfully brought the devastating blaze at a chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Rupnagar area under control.
The fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, has so far claimed 16 lives.
The fire was finally brought under control at 4:20 PM on Wednesday, confirmed Talha Bin Jasim, officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence’s media cell.
He stated that five units were actively working at the scene during the final stages of the operation.
The fire was first reported to Fire Service at 11:40 AM on Tuesday.
The first unit reached the site at Shialbari area of Rupnagar at 11:56 AM and efforts to control the blaze continued non-stop since then.
Talha Bin Jasim earlier informed that the fire had originated in a chemical warehouse and spread to an adjacent garment factory, intensifying the situation due to the presence of highly flammable substances.
The massive fire has already resulted in 16 confirmed deaths and officials fear the toll could rise as investigations and recovery operations continue.
