Professor Dr. Shaheda Obayed is a renowned educationist in the country who has contributed significantly in the education sector till her retirement on January 31, 2006 as the Director General of National Academy for Education Management (NAEM). Born in 1949, her father’s name is late Abdul sMannan and mother’s name is Nargis Ara Mannan, She did her Honors and Master’s degrees in English Literature from Peshawar university, Pakistan, A PhD. holder in Teaching, Administration & Management form California, USA Ms. Sjjeda Obayed also completed her Post Graduation Diploma in English Overseas (TEO) form Manchester, England.
Prof. Dr. Shaheda Obayed started her career as a government service holder in 1971 and till her retirement voluntarily she carried out her responsibilities in various capacities in our education sector. During her long career of around for decades she tried her best he to perform her duties perfectly. She taught English Language and Literature to Graduate and Masters Level students in different colleges since March 1, 1971 to April 16, 2001 under Ministry of Education of Government of Bangladesh. Ms. shaheda Obayed was the principal of Government. Titumir College, Dhaka (16-04-01 to 28-02-04), She also served as Chairperson, Ministey of Education, (Dhaka Education Board Computer Centre) Chairperson, Ministry of Education (Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education) Since February 29, 2004 to December, 20, 2005 and later on as Director General of National Academy for Education Management, NAEM. She worked as Senior Adviser of University of Information Technology & Sciences, UITS around one year in 2005 and also a part time Faculty of Stamford University, Dhaka in 2006.
A very well known educationist of the country Ms. Shaheda Obayed has specialization on Teaching, Educational Management & Administration as well as leading Educational Authority (NTRCA). She took social work training (Pakistan) in 1968, Foundation Training from NAEM and also went study tour in Middle East for twenty times. As she was very interested and fascinated by the media, she worked with different forms of National Media for Past 15 years. Prof. Shaheda Obayed is a member of Examination & certification : National Terchers Recruiting & Certification Authority, NTRCA, member Educational Reforms Committee : National Co-ordination Committee for Curriculum (NCCC), Secondary Education Sector Improvement Project (SESIP), member, National Committee for Regulation of English Medium Schools and other private and Non-Govt. Educational Institutions, member Training and Scholarship Awarding National Committee, appointed by the Ministry of Youth & Sports. She is also involved in cultural activities. She was a member of National Film Censor Board (1999-1995) appointed by Ministry of Information as Education Expert Representative, Member, National Jury Board for National is Film Awards in 1993 and 1994. She is Chairperson and Judge of the National Gold Cup Debate Championship Competition on Bastardies Television (BTV) from 1980 till to date and a NEWS Caster on Bangladesh Television on (1975 to 1976). Professor Dr. Shaheda Obayed is involved with various social activities. She was the President of Rotary Club, Baridhara, Dhaka (2008-2009), President Forum, 2008-2009, Rotary District 3280 (Bangladesh), She writes column on educational affairs, political issues, Women Empowerment etc. She was TV Program Presenter of Bangladesh Television (BTV) talk show focusing on education, problem and reforms, dissemination and lack of English knowledge among all. She has involvement with awareness development program among the People on HIV/AIDS, General health awareness Tuberculosis, Road & Safety Awareness, Drug abuse, Acid throwing and its destructive aftermath. She also works with program on women empowerment, social awareness of violating rights, juvenile crimes and its solutions, youth development and problems etc.
In her personal life she was the wife of Late Obaidur Rahman, a Senior Politician, ex-minister and Parliament Member all his life till his death on March 21, 2007. She has one daughter Shama Islam, son in law Shovon Islam, grandson Arvin, granddaughter Simran. Alongside Bangla and English Ms. Shaheda Obyed is excellent in reading and specking good grasp of writing hindi and urdu.
