An elderly person infected with COVID-19 died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Jashore General Hospital in the district.
The deceased, Sheikh Amir, 68, was a resident of Bagharpara Upazila in Jashore.
Hospital sources confirmed that he had been admitted to the surgery ward on June 5 with kidney-related complications. When symptoms consistent with COVID-19 appeared, a test was conducted, and he was found to be positive for the virus.
Following the diagnosis, Sheikh Amir was transferred to the ICU on the afternoon of June 16. Despite ongoing treatment, he passed away on Wednesday morning.
Dr. Md. Robiul Islam Tuhin, Junior Consultant and in-charge of the ICU, confirmed the death and noted that three other patients in the ICU are currently under observation for suspected COVID-19. Samples have been collected and sent for testing to confirm their status.
Hospital authorities urge the public to remain cautious and continue following health safety guidelines.
