A number of delegations participating in the 136th Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) conference called on Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) during the last couple of days.
On April 2, 2017 the Foreign Minister met the delegations from Sweden led by Speaker Urban Ahlin, from Canada led by Senator Nathaniel Erskine Smith, from Ukraine led by Dr. Igor Polikha, Ambassador in New Delhi, from Thailand led by the First Vice President, National Legislative Assembly Surachai Leingboonlertchai, and the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of the United Nations Miroslav Jenca .
Yesterday, Foreign Minister continued to have meetings with some other delegations. He met delegation from Mexico led by Senator Gabriella Cuevas, Head of Senate Foreign Relations Committee, from Republic of Mali led by its Deputy Speaker, Moussa TIMBINE and accompanied by the Ambassador Mali to Bangladesh with based in New Delhi Niankoro Yeah Samake, from Botswana Lesego E Motsumi, High Commissioner in New Delhi and from Iraq led by its First Deputy Speaker, Sheikh Dr. Humam Hamoudi.
During the calls on, the Foreign Minister and the delegation leaders along with the other members interacted on various bilateral and international issues. The delegates all praises Bangladesh for holding such a huge event so nicely and providing them with warm hospitality in a secured environment. They also praised the enormous socio-economic progress made by the people of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.The discussions among other included how to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, education, technology, culture and other fileds of mutual interest and enhance people to people contact. The parliamentary delegations expressed optimism about the bilateral relations with Bangladesh to continue to be strengthened in the days ahead.
