The Executive Committee of the National
Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved 12 projects involving a total amount of Taka 5,494.04 crore including one for acquiring land to build a sewerage treatment plant in the city’s Uttara area with Taka 1,398 crore.
With ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair,
the approval came from an ECNEC meeting held at the NEC Conference Room inthe city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
Briefing the reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan
said that of the total project cost of Taka 5,494.04 crore, the government
will provide Taka 5,416.04 crore while the rest of Taka 78 crore will come as
project assistance.
The Planning Minister said the objectives of the project that aims to
acquire land to construct a sewerage treatment plant in Uttara area to ensurea hygienic, environment-friendly and sustainable sanitation system in thecity’s Uttara area under Dhaka North City Corporation.
Dhaka WASA under the Local Government Division will implement the
project by June 2021.
The main project operations include acquiring 53.75 acres of land and
thus providing compensation, conducting necessary survey activities and
erecting some 2200 meters of barbwire fence including boundary pillars.
In line with the government’s bid to ensure cent percent sanitation at
Dhaka Metropolis as per the recommendations of the Master Plan, necessary
sanitation measures would be undertaken at Turag Thana under Dhaka North City Corporation area through implementation of this project.
The Planning Minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the meeting
renewed her previous directives to the concerned authorities like building
modern rest areas for the drivers and helpers of vehicles along the highways, making arrangement for plantation while making roads in the hilly areas to avoid landslide, keeping attention so that no goods-laden truck or vehicle could play on the roads, making arrangements for preserving water at each building at the Mirersarai Economic Zone, to maintain discipline in the roads and highways, keep attention so that no project is overlapped while the government doctors would have to make private practice at their own hospitals.
The other projects approved in the meeting are Constructing cargo vehicle
terminal at Benapole Land Port with Taka 289.68 crore, Constructing Alikodom-Jalanipara-Kurukpata-Poamuhuri Road, 1st Revised with Taka 509.29 crore, Building rest places with parking facilities for the drivers and helpers of goods-laden vehicles along four national highways to build sustainable and safe roads and highways with Taka 226.22 crore, Constructing Borotakia-Mirsarai Economic Zone connecting road,2nd Revised with Taka 183.90 crore, Upgrading Khulna portion of Khulna-Chuknagar and Satkhira Highways with Taka 100.70 crore.
The other projects approved in the meeting are Widening and development of road from ECB Square to Mirpur and construction of a flyover in Kalshi, 1st Revised with Taka 1012.11 crore, Integrated Livestock Development Project for the lagging behind inhabitants of plain lands and also to improve the living standards of small ethnic community with Taka 352.03 crore, Utilizing water in small irrigation through excavating ponds with Taka 128.19 crore, Establishment of Col. Maleque and 500-bed hospital in Manikganj, 1st Revised with Taka 1057.17 crore, Establishment of Begum Amina Mansur Textile Management Institute, 1st Revised with Taka 119.75 crore and Integrated Farm: Management Portion-2 Project with Taka 117 crore.
