Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the perpetrators of August 15 carnage and August 21 grenade attacks still remain active as they don’t want development, peace and comfort in the country.
“They (conspirators) feel jealous of Bangladesh’s march forward towards prosperity under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They want to see Bangladesh a conflict-ridden bloody land. They don’t want a Bangladesh of development, peace and comfort,” he said.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said this at a press conference at his official residence here.
He said those who perpetrated the August 15 carnage had to suffer unnatural deaths as the history didn’t forgive anyone and it doesn’t do that.
The trials of those, who had staged the brutal August carnage and who were beneficiaries, have been completed in the court of nature, he said.
He said the November 3 jail killing (in 1975) was actually carried out to make the nation and the AL leaderless.
August 15 carnage, November 3 jail killing and August 21 grenade attacks were launched in continuation of the same conspiracy, he said.
The AL general secretary urged the people and the party leaders and workers to turn the grief of August into strength.
“If we can stand beside the distressed and destitute people during the coronavirus crisis, it will be paying of our proper tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his soul will also get peace at this work,” he said.
Quader said August 15 carnage was the most brutal political assassination in the history as there is no instance of such brutal political assassination in the world.
In no other political assassination in the world, an innocent child was killed and pregnant and innocent women were targeted, he mentioned.
On August 15 in 1975, he said, not only Bangabandhu but also his wife, great woman Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other family members were also brutally killed.
The minister said the perpetrators didn’t stop their conspiracy by launching August 15 carnage rather they had killed four national leaders inside the safe custody of Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 in 1975.
August 21 grenade attacks were also carried out on AL rally in 2004 in continuation of the same conspiracy, he added.
The minister said Bangabandhu was the prime target of August 15 carnage while Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina was the prime target of August 21 grenade attacks.
Turning to Covid-19 situation, Quader said business leaders made promises that initially they would resume factories and mills with workers who reside around the factories.
But in reality, it has been witnessed that many institutions gave notice to workers to join work quickly which resulted in huge rush of people towards the capital without maintaining any kind of health guidelines and this could increase the infection rate further, he feared.
