State Minister for Foreign Affairs arrives Istanbul

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, has reached Istanbul today to attend the 9th Summit of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation scheduled to be held on 20 October 2017 at Istanbul in Turkey.
The State Minister is leading a six-member delegation including Director-General (International Organizations) of Foreign Ministry, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Turkey and Consul General of Bangladesh to Istanbul.
The idea of cooperation among major Muslim developing countries was mooted during a seminar on “Cooperation in Development” held in Istanbul in October 1996. The Organization was set up officially and began its activities with the Istanbul Declaration issued at the end of the summit. Bangladesh is one of the cofounders of this. The Istanbul Summit will also offer D-8 leaders the opportunity of renewing and strengthening bilateral relations among the member states.
Bangladesh is committed to D-8 as a highly potential process as it is driven by economic and development aspirations emphasizing on the importance to adopt appropriate strategies for cooperation, particularly involving the private sectors of the member states that D-8 can prove to be a stabilizing factor in the volatile global economy.
