The government on Sunday formed a five-member advisory committee to address the ongoing crisis at the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting with top business leaders at the Finance Ministry, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin confirmed the committee’s formation but did not share the names of its members or details about its work.
“The committee will discuss possible reforms within the NBR. It will consult all stakeholders before making recommendations,” he said.
When asked about who is on the committee, he said, “I’m not disclosing the names at this stage.”
Dr. Salehuddin was also asked about the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) investigation into six NBR officials who are allegedly involved in the recent protests. He replied, “That matter doesn’t fall under my jurisdiction.”
The meeting, which began at 5:45 PM and ended around 7:00 PM, included some of the country’s leading business figures.
Among the attendees were Mahbubur Rahman, President of the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB), ICCB Vice President and former FBCCI President A.K. Azad, former caretaker government adviser and Square Pharmaceuticals MD Tapan Chowdhury, former FBCCI President Mir Nasir Hossain, LFMEAB President Syed Nasim Manzur, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, BCI President Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury, MCCI President Kamran T. Rahman; MCCI Vice President and Transcom Group CEO Simeen Rahman, and DCCI President Taskin Ahmed.
NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan was also present during the discussions.
