The government has officially declared August 5 as ‘July Uprising Day’, to be observed annually as a national day with a general public holiday.

A gazette notification was issued in this regard on Wednesday.

According to the Cabinet Division, the day is now included in the Category-A list of national and international observances under the directive from October 21, 2024.

In a separate announcement, the government has canceled ‘New Bangladesh Day’ on August 8.This day was previously introduced by the interim government’s Advisory Council.Bangladeshi cuisine recipes

The earlier circular, issued on June 25 to announce the celebration, has been revoked. Relevant ministries, departments, and agencies have been instructed to follow this change.

The government has also declared July 16 as ‘July Martyrs’ Day.’ This will be observed each year to honor those who lost their lives during the July 2024 uprising.This day falls under Category-B observances, according to the Cabinet Division’s national calendar.

All three decisions were made public through separate gazettes and circulars issued by the Cabinet Division on July 2.
