BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka early Wednesday, hours after he was returning home from Thailand.
Prof AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the party standing committee, said Fakhrul was taken to the hospital after he suddenly fell sick at his Gulshan residence at 12 midnight.
His condition is stable as he remains under close observation by physicians, he added.
Mirza Fakhrul’s treatment is being supervised by cardiologist Prof Moninuzzaman.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Fakhrul returned to Dhaka from Bangkok after a follow-up eye treatment. After arriving in Dhaka, he went straight to his Gulshan home before attending a meeting of the BNP’s National Standing Committee at the party chairperson’s office
