One-month infant among 8 burnt in fire in N’ganj gas line leak

Nine people, including a infant, were burnt in gas line leakage at a house in Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj upazila early Saturday.

All the victims were admitted to National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and most had suffered burns more than half of their bodies, said doctors.

The injured are day-labourer Tanzil Islam, 40, his wife Asma Begum, 35, his two children Trisha Akter, 17, and Arafat, 15; day-labourer Hasan, 35, his wife Salma Begum, 32, and his three children, one-month-old Imam Uddin, Jannat, 4, and Muntaha, 11.

Trisha suffered the most severe injuries, with burns over 53 percent of her body, while others had between 30 percent and 48 percent of their bodies burnt.

An explosion occurred suddenly at an early hours from gas line leakage, leaving the nine members of two families injured, informed Hasan’s younger brother Rafiqul. The house is a tin-shed house.
