Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today said a national committee is being formed with eminent persons to frame a new syllabus to project true history of the liberation war.

“A committee is being constituted at the national level comprising renowned historian Professor Muntasir Mamoon, writer and academic Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal, war veteran Shahriar Kabir and writer Selina Hossain to prepare a new syllabus to project true history of the liberation war,” she said.

The Leader of the House said this in reply to a question from by treasury bench member Ashim Kumar Ukil (Netrakona-3) tabled during the Prime Minister’s question time in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The prime minister expressed the hope that with the accomplishment of the work by the committee it will be possible to stop distortion of the history of the liberation war and project its true history before the new generations.

The premier said her government has taken special programmes to check distortion of the history of the liberation war and project its true history.

“After the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, misrule continued in the country and it was run by the government which was against the spirit of the liberation war,” she said.

She said before the formation of her Awami League government in 1996 after long 21 years the history of the liberation was trampled in various ways.

“But after assuming office, our government has taken various programmes to project the true history of the liberation war before the people and inspire the new generations with its spirit,” she said.

The steps, she said, include highlighting the true history of the liberation war in curriculum and textbooks, reviewing the syllabus from class one to the university and abolishing the distortion of the history from concerned books after identifying.

The prime minister said initiatives have been taken to incorporate the true history of the liberation war in the syllabus to present real history of the liberation war to the students.

Apart from this, she said, measures have been taken for displaying films through mobile museums by the Muktijuddho Jadughar and construction of liberation war-based ‘panorama’ to flourish liberation war spirit as well as ‘Ghrina Stambha’ and replica of torture cell in Dhaka to show the brutality of the Pakistani occupation forces.

The Leader of the House said her government has been working sincerely to preserve the mass graves which bear the memories of the martyred freedom fighters and greatest sons of the nation who were killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators.
