Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today stated that the government is prepared to take necessary measures to send BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia abroad for medical treatment, should her family or party formally request it.
Speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry, he emphasized that any decision regarding Khaleda Zia’s treatment overseas would depend entirely on a formal request from her family or party. “If they decide, the government will take required measures,” he said, responding to questions from journalists.
Md Touhid Hossain also noted that the interim government has not yet received any official communication concerning the potential return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia’s personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain provided an update on her current medical condition. He confirmed that Khaleda Zia has been under continuous care in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital since November 27. According to Dr. Zahid, she is responding positively to the treatment being administered by her medical team.
Dr. Zahid addressed reporters outside the hospital around 12:30 pm, highlighting that the former prime minister’s condition is stable and that medical professionals are closely monitoring her progress. The physician did not indicate any immediate requirement for treatment abroad but reiterated that ongoing care is being provided according to her current medical needs.
The comments from the Foreign Affairs Adviser and Dr. Zahid come amid heightened public and political interest in Khaleda Zia’s health status. Khaleda Zia, who has faced various health challenges in recent years, has been receiving treatment domestically, and any decision regarding transfer abroad is contingent upon formal requests from her family or political affiliates.
The government’s readiness to facilitate overseas medical treatment reflects standard protocol in cases involving senior political figures requiring specialized care. Officials have maintained that all steps would be coordinated to ensure proper medical attention while adhering to procedural requirements.
Khaleda Zia’s prolonged medical care has drawn attention from both political circles and the general public, with observers noting the significance of timely and adequate treatment for senior political leaders. The developments indicate that while discussions regarding potential treatment abroad are ongoing, no formal requests have yet triggered official action.
Health experts involved in her care continue to monitor her condition closely, providing regular updates on her response to treatment. The situation remains under observation, and any future steps regarding overseas treatment will be formally communicated by her family or party representatives.
The government has reiterated that it will act promptly once a formal request is received, ensuring that medical protocols and necessary arrangements are in place for Khaleda Zia’s treatment abroad, if deemed necessary.
