According to the court directive, the latest report of the health examination of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been submitted to the Supreme Court. The court will hear the report on Thursday.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) authorities along with the registrar general of the Supreme Court on Wednesday submitted the report, a special official of the Supreme Court said. Saifur Rahman.
He said that at around 3:30 pm, BSMMU lawyer Tania Akter handed over the BNP chairperson’s health report to the Supreme Court Registrar General.
Earlier, a joint bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice KM Zahirul Haque, hearing the bail application in the Zia Charitable case, on Wednesday, directed the BSMMU Vice-Chancellor to submit the report without any failure.
The report was filed along with the registrar general of the Supreme Court around 4pm on Wednesday, and the matter was set for Thursday to hear the case. A high court bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order.
According to the medical board’s recommendation, Khaleda Zia has given consent for advance therapy, whether the treatment has been started with the consent and if she is present, she will be asked to submit the report by Wednesday.
On that day, lawyer Zainul Abedin attended the hearing on behalf of Khaleda Zia. Barristers Moudud Ahmed, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Mahbubuddin Khokon, Badruddoja Badal, Kaiser Kamal, Sagir Hossain Leon and Faruk Hossain were present in the court.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam attended the state hearing.
At that hearing, Zainul Abedin said, “We are back in court for health reasons only.” Khaleda Zia’s health is worse than ever. He can’t stand for 5 minutes. You can’t even eat in your own hands. He almost vomited, even after eating food.
After meeting Khaleda Zia, family members told the media that her condition was very bad. If this is the case then it is not possible to say what happened to him. So we are praying for his bail.
Zainul Abedin filed a petition seeking directions to the VC of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to report on Khaleda Zia’s latest physical condition. “You can ask for a report on his health status if needed,” he said.
Opposing the bail hearing, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the same petition has been made before this court and rejected in the Appellate Division. The appeal is dismissed in the Appellate Division and the application is only repeated.
The Appellate Division has said that it will be done with the consent of the need for advanced treatment. Apart from this, her essential medicines are in Bangladesh. After that, the High Court adjourned the hearing till Thursday, ordering Khaleda Zia to report on medical and health conditions.
Khaleda Zia, who has been imprisoned for five years in two corruption cases, has been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital since April. Parties and family members did not get permission to seek former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at another hospital.
Khaleda Zia filed a petition before the High Court seeking bail in the Zia Charitable Trust case. But the High Court Bench rejected the petition on July 3, considering the importance of the crime, the maximum sentence of the relevant law and the appeal made by Khaleda Zia and other accused against the judgment of the Judicial Court. Khaleda Zia’s lawyers then went to the Appellate Division. But Khaleda Zia did not get bail.
On December 12, the Appellate Division dismissed the bail application with some observations. The Appellate Division ruled that, if the BNP chairperson consented, the medical board of Bangabandhu Medical University Hospital should take steps to give him an ‘advanced treatment’ at the earliest.
After the verdict was published on January 5, Khaleda Zia’s lawyers filed a fresh bail petition in the High Court. Out of the six cases, Khaleda Zia is out on bail, her lawyers said.
