Five people died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Bangladesh, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
This is the highest daily death toll from the virus since October 18, 2022, when six deaths were reported.
Among the deceased, three were from Chattogram Division, one from Dhaka Division, and one from Rajshahi Division.
DGHS also reported that 36 new COVID-19 cases were detected from 621 samples tested during the same 24-hour period.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,051,978 since the pandemic began.
As of Sunday, a total of 433 people have tested positive for the virus this year, with 16 deaths reported in 2025 so far.
According to the latest press release, four of the five people who died were male, and one was female.
This year, seven men and nine women have died from COVID-19. Four of the most recent fatalities were individuals over the age of 40.
The nationwide test positivity rate over the last 24 hours stands at 5.80%, while the overall positivity rate since the pandemic began is 13.05%.
For comparison, the previous day (Saturday) saw two COVID-related deaths and four new cases detected from 211 samples tested.
Bangladesh reported its first COVID-19 cases on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 of the same year.
The deadliest days during the pandemic occurred on August 5 and 10 in 2021, when the country recorded 264 deaths on each day.
